Game Recap
The Trojan Men’s Soccer team took on #16 ranked Mt.Vernon for their last game of the Pike Showcase. The Trojans were looking to end on a high note to end their 5 games in 4 days stretch. From the start of the game the Trojans looked to play their style of soccer and control the game. The Marauders were also looking to be the top team in the match. The Trojans had the better scoring chances in the first half but it was Mt. Vernon who slated the first goal. Late in the first half Mt. Vernon had a cross hit off the top bar and ricochet back into the box and then finished for Mt. Vernon’s lone goal. The Trojans were determined to find their own goal. Only 5 minutes into the second half Grant Williams found Jacob Bittner on a cross that was then settled and struck to the side netting. The Trojans had tied the match 1-1. The rest of the game was fairly even as the Trojans had more scoring opportunities but just couldn’t find that final touch. Mt. Vernon played spirited and found some chances of their own but like the Trojans couldn’t find that final ball. The game ended in a 1-1 tie. “I was pleased with the effort the boy’s put into the games this weekend, especially the final against Mt. Vernon. We played 3 quality opponents and battled each one of them. The boys were exhausted from the grueling week but found the courage and strength to play last game. I was very proud of the efforts of all the boy’s and I look forward to the rest of the season.”-Coach Black
