Coming off an emotional rival win at Harrison, East Central notched another win Thursday defeating Connersville 3-0; 25-23, 25-19, 25-23.
EC record now 13-10, 7-2 EIAC.
In an error laden game one the Trojans early two point advantage quickly faded into a deficit. Trailing by as many as six at 19-13 a Josie Andres kill started the slow march back for the Trojans. Three straight Trojan hammers from Maria Shoemaker and a pair by Nicole Sandmann tied the game at 22-22. EC closed out the Spartans and game one on an Andres spike winning 25-23.
In similar fashion an early lead was erased by sloppy play, EC found themselves down by six again at 11-5 causing an EC timeout. The Trojans responded out of the break with back to back smashes from Andres and Sarah Schuman, but the rally stalled midway through game two. Solid defense combined with Olivia Fette feeds to the front line attack rallied EC back, hammering three straight kills again to tie the game at 17-17. Back to back kills by Sandmann and Kristen Weber pulled EC in front by two, followed by an Amanda Richter ace, then three more points closed the 6-0 run to put EC in front 24-18. EC secured game two 25-19.
The Trojans found themselves in immediate trouble in game three as the Spartans put a pair of 5-0 runs together to jump out in front at 10-3. The Spartans kept the pressure on extending the margin to ten several times, the later at 18-8. In fitting fashion the Trojans fought back cutting the lead in half at 19-14 on Weber and Schuman kills. Not until a combo block by Shoemaker and Sandmann were the Trojans able to even the score at 23-23. In comeback fashion EC won the final two points and the game 25-23.
