Game Recap
The East Central Trojan Men’s Soccer team opened up their Regional play with Connersville Thursday night at Columbus. The boys came out determined to win and keep moving on in the state tournament. Early on the possession was dominated by the Trojans and before halfway into the first half a Freshman had came up big with 2 goals. At the 25:25 mark Freshman Mason Volker headed in a corner kick that was served in by Sophomore Grant Williams and a short four minutes later at the 21:11 mark Nick Salatin crossed a ball in from the right side that Mason Volker then struck into the netting. The Trojans were not done yet. At the 17:45 mark Sam Burns dribbled by two defenders to get to the end line and then passed a ball back into the box were Dillon Bergman was there to hit the ball into the twine. Then Connersville found a goal at the 12:20 mark as a free kick was served from the right side to the left and number 22 Metcalfe took a shot that found its way through a wall of defenders and hit in the side netting. The half ended as a 3-1 favor for the Trojans. The second half was a back and fourth battle as Connersville was playing with a lot of spirit to keep alive in the tournament. Then Sam Burns received a pass from Vince Parisey to put Sam behind the defense. Sam Burns beat the keeper and scored the fourth and final goal at the 13:25 mark. That would be the final score with a 4-1 victory for the Trojans. EC had 13 shots on goal and Connersville had 16. Connersville goalie had 4 saves and Trojan Keeper Jacob Zengerling had 5 saves before he left the game due to an injury suffered during a 1v1 situation. Back-up Keeper David Jutzi came in and did a great job and had 5 saves himself. The Trojans will take on powerhouse Columbus North Saturday at Columbus at 2 pm. “Well it probably wasn’t our best game but it was good enough for a win. Good teams can win ugly and that is what we did tonight. Saturday we will not have that luxury as we take on #1 in state, #13 in the US FAB 50 Columbus North. We will be underdogs coming into the game but these young men are as resilient a group as any. All the things they have been through last year and this year has proven to never count them out of anything. We are excited for the opportunity and will leave it all on the field.”-Coach Black
