Boys Junior Varsity Soccer, Boys Varsity Soccer · EC MEN’S SOCCER BEATS SHELBYVILLE 2-0

The East Central Men’s Soccer team took on the Shelbyville Golden Bears last night. The Trojans traveled to Shelbyville for the match. The Trojans were looking for a win after just coming off a well fought tie with Columbus North on Tuesday. When play began EC enjoyed a lot of the early possession and had created  some solid chances early but were not able to convert. The Golden Bears countered with good play of their own as they had played some quality through balls. They were played just a little to stiff though, as the EC keeper would clear the ball or they would send it over the end line. In the 28th minute though EC senior Grant Williams hit a wonderful shot as his left foot found the upper right 90 of the goal. It was a beauty of a goal that gave the Trojans the 1-0 lead. As play started back it was Grant Williams again in the 39th minute. He was the recipient of a PK as he was tackled from behind in the box. Williams finished of the chance and hit the back netting for his and the Trojans second goal of the game. The game ended just 2-0 as no goals were scored in the second half but there was a lot of good soccer played by both teams. ” We were glad to get on the winning side of things today. Coming off the 1-1 tie to Columbus North on Tuesday our kids wanted to get in the win column. This game was a great team effort as ball movement was at a premium and you can tell the kids generally enjoy each other. We have good depth this year as we are blessed with some pretty talented kids on and off the field. Shelbyville was well coached and played very organized in the back, they are a good team that has a lot of athletic kids.” -Coach Black
