The East Central Men’s Soccer team began EIAC action with a win against Connersville Tuesday night. When the whistle blew the Trojans took control and rarely let up. For much of the first half the Trojans enjoyed possession of the ball and created many opportunities. They finally found their opening goal with 29:41 left in the first half. Nate Weis passed the ball to Grant Williams who finished off the play. Again the Trojans had most control of the ball but score number 2 did not come until 1:23 left in the half. Grant Williams passed the ball to Kurt Fox who hit a missile into the back netting. The half ended with a score of 2-0 and a 17-0 shot advantage for the Trojans. The second half was a mirror image of the first in terms of the possession the Trojans had but the score line was tripled. Just 7 minutes into the second half at the 33:09 mark the Williams to Fox combo struck again. A mere 7 minutes after that in the 26:49 mark senior Nate Schmeusser hit a shot that had rolled passed the keeper. About 2 minutes after that at the 24:29 mark Grant Williams assisted Nate Weis with a cross into the penalty area that Nate did well to get a foot on and score. The final score of the game came at the 8:09 mark when Seth Bittner passed the ball to Nate Barga who beat the keeper with a shot to the far post. The shot advantage was 34-2 in favor of the Trojans and 20-1 Shots on goal. “It was good to start off conference play with a win. We had 5 different kids score our 6 goals, I think this speaks to how well our kids can play together when they put their minds to it. When the movement of the ball is quick and precise, it makes for great soccer. From day one we have told the kids that if you play together and for each other, special things can happen. It is still a long season but we have had a good first run of things.” – Coach Black
The JV also won the game 5-1 which puts them at 3-0-1 for the season with their loss coming against Columbus North 1-0 and wins against Shelbyville 6-0, Colerain 5-0 and Connersville 5-1
Next game will be against South Dearborn on Thursday night starting at 5 for the JV and Varsity game to follow.
