Boys Junior Varsity Soccer, Boys Varsity Soccer · EC battles Harrison in Soccer

The East Central Men’s Soccer team took on the Harrison Wildcats at home Monday night. Although the game did not start as predicted the final was positive for the Trojans. The Harrison Wildcats came to play and that showed early in the game. #12 from the Wildcats ran onto a long ball and out ran the defense to put the Wildcats up 1-0 just 8 minutes in. Shortly after (30:25 mark) the same Wildcat struck again as he crossed the ball and it deflected off the Trojan defender for an own goal. The Wildcats were up 2-0 early in the game. The Trojans were looking for an answer and they found it. From then on the Trojans seized control, at the 24:57 mark in the first Mason Volker received a pass from Clay Muncy and netted the ball. In just about 30 seconds the Trojans found an equalizer, at the 24:24 mark Isaac Depue received a pass from Clay Muncy and evened up the game 2-2. At 15:40 the Trojan’s Mark Bertke received the pass from Tyler Koelling and took the lead. Late in the first half with 2:40 left the Trojans were awarded a PK and Voler buried the attempt. The Trojans down early rallied to make a first half score of 4-2. In the second half at the 30:25 mark Mason Volker was the recipient of a hat trick as Isaac Depue fed him the ball and Mason capitalized. Shortly after the subs starting rotating in but the play did not decrease. At 18:06 Adam Lyness received the cross from Clay Muncy and finished the ball into the net. Then with 2:10 left Austin Bauman was dropped a ball atop the 18 and struck the final goal for the Trojans. The final was 7-2 in favor of the home squad! “Our kids overcame some early lapses in the mental side of the game and fought for the victory. The Harrison attack is fast and can definitely find ways to score quick. Their coach has done a nice job teaching the kids as I thought their ball movement was good. Our kids are pretty resilient though and it showed tonight.” – Coach Black
